Adecom College Management Urges Student Leaders to Embrace Strategic Planning and Dialogue

T

he management of Adecom College of Business and Management, Egbeda, Ibadan, has charged newly elected Student Union leaders to prioritise strategic planning, effective communication, and constructive engagement as key tools for impactful leadership.

The call was made by the Director of Academic Planning, Mr. Jamiu Afolayan, during a leadership training programme organised for the student executives at Justice Ayoola Guest Hotel, Tipper Garage, Ibadan. According to Mr. Afolayan, purposeful leadership begins with clear vision and planning, noting that student leaders must work closely with the school management through constructive dialogue to develop practical policies that will positively influence the institution and guide the student body.

He emphasised that collaboration between students and management remains essential for institutional growth, adding that well-thought-out strategies would enable student leaders to contribute meaningfully to the college’s development.

Delivering a paper titled “Communication and Dispute Resolution on Campus,” Barrister Ogunkeye Obafunso urged the executives to uphold open communication, active listening, and neutrality in addressing conflicts. He explained that when disputes are properly managed, they can be transformed into opportunities for growth, mutual understanding, and stronger trust between students and the management.

Barrister Ogunkeye further encouraged the leaders to set clear expectations, lead by example, and appreciate diverse viewpoints, stressing that inclusiveness and fairness are vital for achieving sustainable outcomes on campus.

In his contribution, Comrade Olalere Olatunji advised the newly sworn-in executives to strike a healthy balance between their academic responsibilities and student politics. He noted that effective student unionism, like life itself, demands strategic thinking, diplomacy, and carefully considered decisions.

On the third day of the training, the Rector, Dr. Adewale Adesina, motivated the executives for the 2025/2026 academic session to apply the knowledge and skills gained during the programme. He urged them to demonstrate, through their actions, their appreciation of the institution’s investment in their leadership development.

The programme concluded with the presentation of certificates to all participating executives, formally qualifying them to assume the responsibilities of their respective offices and marking the beginning of their leadership journey.
