Adecom College prepares HND II Students for Education Sector Reforms, NYSC Requirements

In a bid to align graduating students with ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s education sector, the management of Adecom College of Business and Management has organised an orientation seminar for her HND II students, focusing on project standards, graduation requirements, and NYSC eligibility under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The seminar, which held on Friday, February 6, 2026, at the school hall, attracted a total of 127 graduating students, with the Department of Business Management recording the highest attendance of 35 participants.

Furthermore, the orientation was designed to enlighten students on recent restructuring in the education sector, particularly as it affects final year project submission, graduation clearance, and mobilisation for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The Rector Dr Adewale Adesina, clarified the difference between school-based seminar presentations and nationally recognised project work. He explained that final year students are now required to upload their completed projects on the Nigeria Education Restoration and Data Bank (NERD) portal for verification before they can be cleared for national service.

Dr Adeshina further disclosed that project work would officially commence on Monday, February 9, 2026, and run for a duration of three months. He added that only students who participated in the orientation exercise would be approved for project presentation.

More so one of the facilitator, Mrs Gladys Shoga, took students through the preparation of preliminary pages as well as Chapters One and Two of their projects, in line with the institution’s approved project format. According to her, the seminar was structured to simplify the project writing process and reduce common errors made by students.

In addition , Mr Ayodele Emmanuel in his presentation, spoke extensively on research methodology and data analysis, covering Chapters Three and Four. He advised students to personally handle their project work rather than outsourcing it, noting that such expenses could be redirected to more productive academic needs.

Similarly, Mr Afolayan Jamiu, cautioned students against plagiarism, stressing that proper referencing and originality are essential to a credible research work.

Also, explaining the technical aspect of the new requirements, Mr Sunday Adelaja outlined the procedures for uploading projects on the NERD portal. He noted that successful submission would not only guarantee smooth NYSC mobilisation but also showcase Nigerian students’ research innovations on a global platform. He added that each student would be issued a National Students Number (NSN) upon successful project upload.

Mr Adelaja also highlighted several challenges that could affect students’ future prospects, revealing that part-time JAMB candidates are no longer eligible for NYSC. In addition, he stated that Industrial Training certificates are now mandatory, as IT letters are no longer accepted. He further disclosed that academic records now require the use of only three official names, urging students with name discrepancies to effect corrections without delay.
